Geezer Gassers Guidelines & Directives

These guidelines are presented as the basis and foundation for the group and our motto "Drag Racing The Old Way". It is our belief and focus that all thevehicles competing directly resemble as closely as reasonably possible the gasclass vehicles of the mid 60's - the so called "Gasser Wars" relived. Anythingthat makes a vehicle look or act like a current generation "bracket car" is causefor immediate disqualification from participation. All decisions made by thetechnical staff relating to appearance and safety are final. Our focus is safety,entertainment, putting on a good show and having fun. Competitive spirit iswelcome, bad attitudes are not. These rules are subject to change and interpretation by the Geezer Gassers technical team. All decisions arefinal.

  1. SAFETY
    1.  
    2. All vehicles will be required to meet the safety criteria of thesanctioning body or host track affiliation i.e. NHRA, IHRA, GoodguysVDRA.

    3. Chassis certifications are encouraged for all vehicles, butnot required.

    4. Track or sanctioning body technical inspectors havethe final word.

    5. Two functioning headlights are required. Permanently mounted in the factory style and location. May operate on only low beams, or high beams, or both. They must be controlled from the interior of the car
    6. At least one working red rear taillight

    7. Wheelie Bar(s) REQUIRED on any vehicle that is capable of pulling the front wheels 12 inches or more on launch or when shifting gears.

    8. All vehicles are required to have in place a non SFI lower engine containment device or a SFI lower engine containment device.

  2. ELECTRONICS
    1.  
    2. Absolutely NO electronic engine, transmission, or power traincontrols are permitted in competition.
    3. This includes but not limited to:
      1. Delay boxes
      2. Throttle Stops
      3. Crossover boxes
      4. Data recorders/monitors/playback systems
      5. Traction control/monitors/regulators
      6. Infrared starting line systems
      7. Air Shifters
    4. Exceptions to the rule are:
      1. Line locks
      2. Trans brakes
      3. Rev limiter/Playback tachometers/Ignition boxes
        1. Rev limiters can be used only as engine protection. They are not to beused for launch or start line process.

  3. BODY TYPES & Suspension
    1.  
    2. All body type must be based on a 1952 or earlier year of production.
      1. Fiberglass reproduction of complete bodies as well as components arepermitted
    3. All bodies must retain the appearance of the original.

    4. NO OPEN OR ROADSTER TYPE VEHICLES. Enclosed cabin, door cars with a permanently attached roof ONLY

    5. No body enhancements or aerodynamic improvements are permitted

    6. This will include but not limited to:
      1. Raised quarter panes or rear fenders
      2. Wings or airfoil spoilers
      3. Pro stock or snorkel type hood scoops
    7. Period type/correct paint schemes are required

    8. No present day graphics or schemes are permitted.

    9. Primer is OK - any color or tinting

    10. Any lettering - driver identification, sponsorship, nicknames must be ingood taste - permanent paint or vinyl lettering is acceptable.

    11. Front suspension - straight axle front ends, suspension of the '60's amust.
    12. Rear suspension - parallel leaf springs, transverse leafsprings, coil overs and ladder bars are acceptable. 4-link suspension will beconsidered on individual competition basis.

    13. No full tube/round tube chassis vehicles allowed

    14. Wheels from the period are the only ones accepted i.e. aluminum slots,Cragars, Halibrands, painted steel wheels are the first choice. Absolutely nolate generation billet or spun aluminum wheels i.e. Centerlines, Welds

      After 1 March 2011, no new memberships will be acceptedusing this style wheel. Current members using them are permitted to retain them.
      These are not permitted/accepted for change to, by current members

    15. Rear tires cannot be wider than 12" (tread width) and no larger than32" tall (diameter)

  4. POWER TRAIN
    1.  
    2. This is a "GAS" class, therefore ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL, NITROMETHANE, or other exotic type fuels or additives are permitted. Alcohol blended fuels above pump gaslevels of 10% are not accepted....ie, E85 is NOT an accepted type of fuel. Race 'gasoline,' leaded or unleaded, of any octane rating is the only accepted fuel for group activities. NO NITROUS OXIDE IS ALLOWED.

    3. Engines are permitted, any OEM or after market iron oraluminum cylinder head.

    4. Superchargers are restricted to Roots typeonly, no larger than 8:71. No screw, Whipple or centrifugal type.
    5. No exhaust driven turbochargers.

    6. Any OEM or after market iron or aluminum intake is permitted. Carburetor or mechanical fuel injection may be used for fuel delivery alone or with supercharger.

    7. Any transmission may be used to include full automatic,stick shift or manual, clutch flite or hydromatic.

    8. Any ignition type i.e. magneto, points, transistorized or MSD.

    9. Car will have to be self starting (no remote battery carts or starters) and will have to drive under it's own power from the pits to the staging lanes. After the pass down the track, the car must drive under it's own power down the return road to return to the pit area.
